History

McMahon Engineering has been manufacturing high quality SMB reels for over a decade. The reels were designed, built and thoroughly tested by an experienced diver who works within the company.

The large black and yellow diving reel was designed and manufactured in 1981; it was designed and made by engineers that are experienced divers. The dive reel design was originally conceived by a do it yourself advert in a BSAC members manual issued to divers that belonged to a BSAC dive club. So back in the early 1980's Howard Tennant set about making his very own DIY smb reel. Although this original design was a little problematic it set precedence for the large Mcmahon reel that is on sale today. The design was made to be extremely robust where and when it needed to be, also very easy to maintain, and also very bright in low visibility conditions.

Because of the large reels success and the demand for a smaller more compact designed reel Howard set about designing a compact reel in 1997 to be used with divers new and modern equipment, the compact reel was then conceived and again well met by the diver.

This reel was again made with all the larger reels qualities but also meant that it could be taken abroad on diving expeditions, and also slotted into a stab jacket pocket on dives, where it was needed on a wreck, or in use of a delayed SMB.
